Question:

Can we link to the appointment book in a frameset.

Answer:

Framesets are acceptable W3C HTML components and can be used to display two or more independent HTML documents in the same browser window. This page explains each frameset component and the required link structure to create a frameset and successfully link into the appointment system from your website.

Here is a working example of a frameset for online booking. Notice how they can display any of these appointment system pages at their own website.

Please note that this system has been designed to accommodate 800x600 and larger screen resolutions. By keeping the links in the smaller upper frame, the viewing area will not be crowded for your users.

The frameset is comprised of three HTML documents:

1 : The Frameset

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>Your Site Name</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="Your site description.">
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOFOLLOW">
<META NAME="AUTHOR" CONTENT="Your Business Name">
<META NAME="COPYRIGHT" CONTENT="Copyright Your Business Name">
</head>
<frameset rows="90,*" border="0">
<frame name="UpperFrame" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" src="uppercontent.html">
<frame name="MainFrame" frameborder="0" src="maincontent.html">
<noframes>
<body>

A few browsers cannot display frames so duplicate the content from maincontent.html and insert it here or display link(s) to other non-framed pages.

</body>
</noframes>
</frameset>
</html>

Except for the border tag in the frameset line [frameorder="0"] the above code validates to W3C HTML 4.01 standards. It can be copied and saved as onlinebooking.html. Edit the red text as necessary. It will create a frameset with a 90 pixel high upper frame to contain your logo and links. The upper frame will remain stationary as your clients proceed through the booking process.

2 : The Upper Frame

The UpperFrame, which you will create and save as uppercontent.html, will contain all of the links for online booking. Right-click and save each of the blue text images and incorporate them into your upper frame or use your own design for the links.

The proper href for each of these links can be found in your control center. Include alt tags for images and title tags for <a href=> to provide users with additional link information.

3 : The Main Frame

The MainFrame will display the content for each of your links. Create your information page and save it as maincontent.html. Test the frameset by opening onlinebooking.html in your browser.

Finally, the document for displaying your services, hours and pricing can be your own HTML document or your BBU homepage.

Using your homepage will let you edit your services, hours and pricing from within your control center without having to edit your own HTML documents. Simply link to your homepage from the upper frame.
